How to Fix CPU Usage and Temps on Battlefield 6 (user.cfg)

If Battlefield 6 isn’t using your CPU efficiently, you can nudge the engine with a user.cfg file. Follow the path for your launcher (Steam or EA App), then create the config with thread limits based on your PC.

Battlefield 6 CPU usage optimization

Path A: Steam

Open the game’s install folder from Steam and place user.cfg next to Battlefield6.exe.

Steam default path

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Battlefield 6
  1. Open Steam → Library, right-click Battlefield 6.
  2. Select Manage → Browse local files to open the install folder.
  3. Create a new text file named user.cfg in this folder (same folder as the game .exe).

Path B: EA App

Open the same install folder via EA App and place user.cfg beside the executable.

EA App default path

C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 6
  1. Open EA App → Library, select Battlefield 6.
  2. Open the game folder via View properties / Open install location.
  3. Create user.cfg in that folder (same folder as the game .exe).

Create & Fill user.cfg

Open the new file in Notepad and paste the lines below. Replace the question marks with your numbers:

  • Thread.ProcessorCount → your core count (Task Manager → Performance → CPU).
  • Thread.MaxProcessorCount → your core count again.
  • Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount → 0.
  • Thread.JobThreadPriority → 0.
  • GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount → your threads / logical processors total.
Thread.ProcessorCount ?
Thread.MaxProcessorCount ?
Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0
Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount ?

Important: which cores to count?

Use these values for Thread.ProcessorCount, Thread.MaxProcessorCount, and GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount.

Intel hybrid (P+E)12900K / 13900K / 14900K …

Use P-cores only for the counts.

Example: 8 P-cores / 16 threads
Thread.ProcessorCount 8
Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8
GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 16
Intel non-hybrid (no E-cores)8700K / 10700K / 11700K …

Use all cores/threads.

Example: 8c/16t
Thread.ProcessorCount 8
Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8
GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 16
AMD X3D dual-CCD9950X3D / 7950X3D / 7900X3D

Use the 3D-cache CCD only → divide total cores/threads by 2.

Example: 16c/32t total → use 8c/16t
Thread.ProcessorCount 8
Thread.MaxProcessorCount 8
GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 16
AMD non-X3D / single-CCD5600X / 5800X / 7600 / 7800X …

Use all cores/threads.

Example: 6c/12t
Thread.ProcessorCount 6
Thread.MaxProcessorCount 6
GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount 12

Generate your user.cfg

Enter your CPU cores and threads (Task Manager → Performance → CPU). We’ll build the exact file for you to download.

Enter positive whole numbers for both cores and threads to enable Download.

Preview:

Thread.ProcessorCount ?
Thread.MaxProcessorCount ?
Thread.MinFreeProcessorCount 0
Thread.JobThreadPriority 0
GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount ?

Save or move user.cfg into the Battlefield 6 install folder (same folder as the game executable). Relaunch the game and monitor CPU usage while in a match.

Notes & Troubleshooting

  • Find your numbers fast: Task Manager → Performance → CPU shows Cores and Logical processors.
  • If nothing changes: Ensure the file is named exactly user.cfg and placed beside the game executable.

Final Thoughts

This user.cfg tweak helps Battlefield 6 spread work more cleanly across your CPU on many systems. It’s quick to try and easy to revert - just delete the file to undo.

With CPU usage and temps reduced, most chips sustain higher boost clocks and tighter frametimes. That gives your GPU more headroom and lets HD OPTI’s optimizations shine - expect smoother pacing, fewer spikes, and better 1%/0.1% lows when the CPU is no longer the bottleneck.

Tip: After applying the file, play a few minutes and watch CPU clocks/temps and frametimes (RTSS/Afterburner or Performance Overlay). If temps are great but frametimes still wobble, try lowering GstRender.Thread.MaxProcessorCount by 2 and retest.
